What is PCOS?

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common health
condition that a ects your hormones and how your ovaries function. In a healthy cycle, ovaries release eggs regularly. In PCOS, the hormonal signals that regulate ovulation are disrupted, often causing irregular periods or no periods at all.

PCOS is driven by imbalances in hormones like insulin (which helps control blood sugar) and androgens (male-type hormones that everyone has, but at higher levels in PCOS). These imbalances can lead to a range of symptoms – from acne and unwanted hair growth to weight gain and fertility challenges.

Many women with PCOS also experience metabolic issues such as insulin resistance, which increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes over time. Despite being one of the most common endocrine disorders, PCOS is often misunderstood and misdiagnosed, especially in younger
women.

1 in 10 women live with PCOS – and many don’t even know it.
